New England Patriots

Head Coach Bill Belichick always gets the optimum performance out of his team. Whenever they seem outmanned or depleted by injuries, Belichick is able to devise a scheme that gets his team the upper hand. He does this by picking certain types of players. He looks for team first attitudes in his players and he looks for quality athletes. He figures that if they are smart, team-oriented and superior athletically-speaking that they can overcome all odds. And how can you argue with the success? This season’s team has some severe holes in it compared to last year’s. The defensive coordinator, Romeo Grennel, has moved to Cleveland. The offensive coordinator, Charlie Weis, is the new head coach at Notre Dame. The near tragic physical ailments of Tedy Bruschi, and the release of Ty Law and Roman Phifer are large pieces to replace. But the Pats went out and signed Duane Starks from Arizona to help fill the gaps.

Offensively, you cannot find a better winner than QB Tom Brady. WRs David Givens and Deion Branch will be the main targets for Brady to throw to, but Tim Dwight comes over from San Diego and David Terrell from Chicago. But none of this could happen without a great running threat and RB Corey Dillon provides that as well as any back in the NFL. Branded as a malcontent in Cincinnati, Dillon has provided immediate dividends for the Patriots and allows Brady the time to hit any number of his talented “no name” receivers. Every year, the Patriots’ success is a “surprise” to most NFL fans—except to the New England Patriot fans, who revere their team and expect nothing less than Super Bowl victories. However, this year may be the year where the Patriots come back to the pack and struggle in the playoffs or struggle to make the playoffs.
